Why Chinese Factories Need Time After New Year? A Real Cultural Story

Yesterday was Lantern Festival, the official end of Chinese New Year. For global partners who wonder why lead times are longer right now, this post explains the real, human reason behind it.

Most factory workers in China leave their hometowns far away to work on the coast. At our factory, many come from inland provinces like Jiangxi, Anhui, Shanxi.

For them, Chinese New Year is not just a holiday — it’s the only chance all year to reunite fully with family, parents and children.

They usually leave 2 weeks before Spring Festival and only return after Lantern Festival. That means nearly one month at home — not for extra rest, but for family.

Even with return travel subsidies, most choose to stay longer. It’s a deep part of Chinese culture.

So during this month:

• Production drops to the lowest level

• Back orders pile up

• New orders must wait for full staffing

Office staff only take 8–10 days off, but production only restarts when the whole workshop is back.

Good news: From today, production is gradually recovering.

We expect full normal capacity by March 10.

March orders will return to regular lead time: around 30 days.

This is the real rhythm of Chinese manufacturing — rooted in people, family and culture.
